The House of World Cultures has set itself the task of presenting cultures from outside Europe through their fine arts, theatre, music, literature, film and the media and engaging them in a public discourse with European cultures. It gives priority to projects that explore the possibilities of both intercultural co-operation and its presentation.

Gernika Peace Museum

Founded in 1998, the mission of the Gernika Peace Museum and Foundation is to preserve, display, publicise, conduct research and educate visitors in the basic ideas of the culture of peace, and the past and present relation of this culture to the history of Gernika-Lumo, so that, together with other history and peace organisations, Gernika-Lumo, the province of Bizkaia and the Basque Country be used as local, regional, national and international references in the search for peace and culture.

International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum

Geneva, the birth-place of the International Red Cross, hosts the only museum devoted to the work of Henry Dunant. Located just opposite the Palais des Nations, The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum was opened in 1988 to pay tribute to the extraordinary deeds of the men and women of the Red Cross who have served humanity for over 140 years. At the same time it also presents more up-to-date photographic exhibitions in its temporary exhibition hall on the ground floor.
